DUMB PHONE
Recently I made a large decision to switch to a dumb phone. I have officially ditched the iPhone and purchased a flip phone. This means I only have the ability to call and text from my phone. Screen addiction, inability to focus on the present moment, always being accessible, and privacy are all reasons I made the decision to switch to a dumb phone .

While I still had my smart phone I frequently found myself getting weekly screen time notifications that stated I used my phone for an average of 8 hours a day. That is a full time job. I would constantly find that I would put screen limits on certain apps and either switch which app I was using the most during the day or just ignore the screen limits. While there are passwords that can be set as well the list of other reasons were quickly adding up. My freshman year of college I had a roommate who made a point to not use their phone in public spaces as much as possible. At first I disregarded their intent but a month or two into my freshman year I also started taking up this practice. I found myself more aware of the moment, those around me, and enjoying the weird world around me. Another practice I took up in college was not having my email notifications on. I am a firm believer that anything sent over email should have the ability to be responded to within 24 hours. If I am needed urgently a phone call should be the point of contact. That being said I do check my email more than once a day, but this also allows me to sit down and make the decision to check and respond to emails that might have otherwise occupied my brain until I responded.

Ultimately it was not this short list of reasons that made me switch to a dumb phone but they certainly were a large incentive as to making this choice. So far I have had very few issues with this change and hope I can inspire you to at minimum to step away from the smart phone as much as possible.

This is a very long winded way to say that I may not respond to emails instantaneously. I hope there is some understanding that as soon as we make contact I am happy to hand out my phone number and allow more direct communication.
